We urge anyone with information about the events at Orgreave Coking Plant on 18 June 1984 to contact us in order to establish an overall picture of:
- planning undertaken by the police and government for the policing of the demonstration at Orgreave on 18 June 1984, including relevant decision-making, in the lead-up to the day;
- the events at Orgreave on the day of 18 June 1984, the immediate aftermath and lasting impact on individuals and communities, including the subsequent public narrative which developed; and
- charging decisions and prosecutions relating to those arrested in relation to the events at Orgreave on 18 June 1984
What we would like to know
We want to hear from any individual or organisation who was directly or indirectly involved in or impacted by the events that took place at Orgreave, or their aftermath. You might wish to include:
- Your recollections of the events at Orgreave on 18 June 1984 and any involvement you had.
- Whether you were involved in the planning or conduct of the events at Orgreave.
- Whether you were arrested or charged with any offences arising out of events at Orgreave.
- Whether you were involved in the charging decisions or the prosecutions arising out of events at Orgreave.
- The impact the events had upon you and/ or the local community.
- Whether you have any documents relating to events at Orgreave.
Your identity will not be published or disclosed without your consent.
How to send responses
We welcome submissions so that the Inquiry can consider your response as we finalise our List of Issues, which will enable us to move forward with future phases of the Inquiry.
Although the Inquiry is at the beginning of its investigative process and welcomes as much evidence as possible as quickly as possible, any evidence submitted to the Inquiry will be given full consideration.
There are three ways to submit evidence:
Digital submission
If you are able to provide an electronic response please email us at legal@orgreave.public-inquiry.uk with your name, email address, and organisation (if any) you are submitting a response on behalf of. You will be emailed with instructions and a secure upload link where you can safely and securely upload your response and any supporting documents.
Post
If you would prefer to reply by post, please use the freepost address: Freepost ORGREAVE INQUIRY. Please note, ‘Orgreave Inquiry’ needs to be in capitals for it to reach us. Please let us know if you would like your original documents returned to you in your response.
In person submission
If you have documents that you are unable to scan and would prefer not to post please contact us and we can look into arrangements to obtain the documents from you securely.

All responses to the Call for Evidence will be used by the Inquiry and analysed to inform our understanding of the events at Orgreave, including identifying potential lines of enquiry for our investigation.
