CHAIR AND PANEL HELD THEIR INITIAL STAKEHOLDER
MEETINGS

Welcome to the first of our monthly Orgreave Inquiry newsletters. We recognise the importance of open and transparent dialogue and are keen to keep you updated as to the progress we have made and upcoming milestones. This newsletter will be digitally dispersed via our website and to our stakeholders as they evolve. Please feel free to disseminate to anyone who you think would be interested in our work.

In this formative stage of the Inquiry, we met for the first time in the week-beginning 13 April for a 24-hour residential. This was a key opportunity to introduce members of the Panel to each other, begin to plan the trajectory of the Orgreave Inquiry and to begin thinking about how we will gather and interrogate evidence. We also visited the site at Orgreave of the events of 18 June 1984, a news article of our visit can be found on our website The Orgreave Inquiry Chair and Panel Visit the Orgreave Site. Read more about the visit.

Chair and Panel members (listed left to right as Bishop Pete, Wendy Williams CBE, Dr Joanna Gilmore, Dr Angie Sutton‑Vane and Dame Mary Bousted) stand on the grassy site of Orgreave beside a stone memorial, with housing and countryside in the background.

At the week-beginning 11 May, we also had the first in our series of key stakeholder meetings. These meetings were extremely helpful to Chair and Panel with constructive discussion and valuable input from attendees. We are in the process of arranging a further series of meetings and very much look forward to maintaining strong engagement and ongoing dialogue as we progress.

CONTACT US TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE

The Inquiry continues to welcome submissions from all relevant parties and individuals. This
includes anyone directly involved in the events at Orgreave Coking Plant on 18 June 1984,
those who witnessed the events, and anyone holding relevant material.

Following feedback from stakeholders, firstly, we have extended the deadline for this initial
call for evidence to 31 May 2026. Secondly, evidence submitted to the Inquiry after that date will still be given full consideration. The purpose of the initial call is to enable the Inquiry to have as much evidence as possible as quickly as possible, noting the Inquiry must be concluded in two years, to assist us in the task of generating a List of Issues, which will move us into Phase 2. A short timeframe for the initial scoping exercise is standard practice. Further details on all phases of the Inquiry are available here Further details on all phases of the Inquiry are available by clicking this link

As always, your contribution will be treated with the utmost care and may help provide important detail and context on the matters under consideration. Gathering a wide range of perspectives remains essential to supporting the Inquiry.
